Kenna Turner West – Daywind Music Publishing
For nearly thirty years, Kenna Turner West has blended music, devotional teaching, and humor into a ministry that reaches around the world, serving alongside Christian leaders such as Franklin Graham and Jerry Falwell at venues ranging from The Pentagon to NASCAR chapels to the local church.
Her career in gospel music began in 1983 when, as a new Believer, the eighteen year-old joined her father, Ken Turner, as a member of the nine-time Grammy Award-winning Blackwood Brothers. (The Blackwood Brothers were inducted into the GMA Hall of Fame in 1998.) In 2001, after years of primarily being a vocalist, Kenna began to devote more time to songwriting. Within months, she landed the title cut on Karen Peck and New River’s project, A Taste of Grace, followed by her first single, We’re Not Gonna Bow by Jeff and Sheri Easter, which became a #1 hit and earned Kenna her first of three Dove Award nominations. With dozens of cuts and a string of hits, in just four short years, she was voted the “SGM Songwriter of the Year.”
In 2010 Kenna won a Diamond Award for “Song of the Year,” and in both 2011 and 2012 received the “AGM Songwriter of the Year” honor. Kenna is currently nominated for two Diamonds Awards as well as two Singing News Fan Awards.
It has been a breakout year for the singer-songwriter. With over a dozen radio singles to her credit, Kenna recently penned her first musical entitled Love Won, distributed by LifeWay. Narrated by Mark Lowry and with orchestrations by Russell Maudlin, Bradley Knight, Cliff Duren, and Camp Kirkland, the Easter production was nominated for a Dove Award in 2012. A vibrant part of the teamat Daywind, her growing catalog of songs include southern gospel, praise andworship, inspirational, adult contemporary, country, gospel, and choral.
In April, Kenna celebrated her twentieth anniversary with husband, Kerry, son of country music legend Dottie West. The couple’s son, Graham, attends Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville where he is pursuing a major in both Physics and Mathematics.
